Staatsburgh State Historic Site will present A Gilded Age Christmas from late November through New Year’s Eve. The site will be decorated in turn-of-the-century style, recreating the atmosphere of holidays long-ago in one of the great estates of the Hudson Valley.
Staatsburgh was the Gilded Age country home of financer and philanthropist Ogden Mills and his wife,Ruth Livingston Mills, a prominent figure in New York Society. Their mansion, overlooking the Hudson River in the hamlet of Staatsburg, was redesigned and expanded to 79 rooms in 1895 by the famous architect Stanford White.
Staatsburgh will open for the holiday season on Friday, November 24. Touring hours will be Thursday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. through December 31. The site will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
On Friday, December 15, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., there will be special evening hours: visitors can tour the house, speak with costumed guides, enjoy live music and a crafts activity, as well as holiday shopping.
In addition, the site will be open Tuesday through Sunday, December 26 – 31, from noon to 4 p.m.
Staatsburgh’s museum shop will be open during all touring hours, and until 5pm each day the site is open. Often cited as among the best museum gift shops in the Hudson Valley, the shop features a unique array of jewelry, books, scarves, keepsakes and gifts.
Site admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors; children 12 and younger are free. Staatsburgh State Historic Site and the Ogden Mills & Ruth Livingston Mills Memorial State Park are located on Old Post Road in Staatsburg, off Route 9 between Rhinebeck and Hyde Park.
