about
The Upstram Gallery:
Upstream Gallery returns to its Hastings roots and celebrates Hastings Friday Night Live 2014

This year marks Upstream Gallery’s 23rd season
as a successful independent cooperative gallery.  Upstream began in Hastings in 1991 and came home this February after many wonderful years in Dobbs Ferry.  We open our first Hastings-based RiverArts Studio Tour weekend with a group show featuring the entire roster of Upstream artists.  On Friday April 25th we will host a special evening reception at the gallery for the group show, remaining open until 10 pm so all can visit.

On the same evening, Upstream is also participating in a welcoming event at the first Hastings Friday Night Live for 2014.  The gallery will help sponsor an outdoor painting event where kids and their parents can participate in painting self-portraits. In turn, older siblings or high school students will photograph the painters and their portraits to create a “Picture Yourself in Hastings” outdoor installation in green spaces throughout the village.

About Upstream:
Upstream is a unique community of arts professionals who have
worked together co-operatively since 1991
Artist members look to Upstream as a venue for experimentation, mutual support and artistic growth.  The gallery embraces all fine arts media and all styles from realism to abstraction. Upstream is an established resource for new or experienced art collectors, as well as area curators, designers and art consultants.

Upstream Gallery is now located at 8 Main Street, Hastings-on-Hudson New York 10706.  Gallery hours are Thursday-Friday 12:30 to 5:30 pm and Saturday-Sunday from 10 am to 5:30 pm.  Telephone:  914 674 8548

BIO: DIVINING ROD
A veteran of the New York and Baltimore music scenes, Miyuki Furtado continues to branch out musically with his latest work as psych-drone explorer, Divining Rod.
The project is starting to make waves with intimate recordings as well as live performances that crackle with all out feedback drenched meditations.
Multi-instrumentalist, Furtado, creates dense sonic collages and loops combined with his own frenzied drum work and explosive guitar playing.
His recorded work displays simpler, more rustic sounds steeped in the
60's British Folk of Sandy Denny, Pentangle and Bert Jansch. Within
this duality lies the center of Divining Rod's sound.
The band also features keyboard/synth wizard, Parker Reilly.
Divining Rod's current collaborators also include a trio of Baltimore luminaries: guitarist, Rob Girardi (engineer of benchmark Beach House,
Double Dagger & Celebration albums), as well as guitarist David
Koslowski and bassist and vocalist Shirlé Hale of indie rock giants,
Small Apartments.
A revolving cast of friends that include members past and present of Dead Sands, VHS or BETA, Amy Lettis, Trail of Dead, Fergus & Geronimo and Celebration also make occasional live appearances.
Miyuki was also a member of The Rogers Sisters and Midnight Masses and
many other eclectic groups.
