Based on the best selling novel by Haruki Murakami the film is set in Tokyo during the late 1960s, a time when Japanese students, like those of many other nations, were protesting against the established order. The Enslaved Africans' Rain Garden [link]
Hudson River Museum

Enslaved Africans' asks us to think about where America's slaves came from, their families, what languages they
spoke, their songs, their very thoughts. Celebrating Black History Month, the Museum presents a display of the proposed public-art project The Enslav ed Africans' Rain Garden, designed to honor African slaves freed by law in the United States. The project, developed by Yonkers sculptor Vinnie Bagwell, proposes to commemorate Africans who resided at the Philipse Manor Hall in Yonkers — six of whom were among the first to be manumitted by law in the United States, 76 years before the Emancipation Proclamation. The installation features maquettes (one-third scale models) of the planned sculptures, architectural drawings of a corresponding park setting, and historical information about slavery in Westchester. The Enslaved Africans' Rain Garden focuses on the lives of the men, women, and children, who were imbruted and stripped of their human rights. When Yonkers City Councilwoman Patricia McDow attended an exhibit on slavery at Philipse Manor Hall several years ago, she asked, "Where were the slaves buried?" But no one seemed to know. McDow quickly locked onto the idea of a monument commemorating these slaves and reached out to Bagwell, who as co-founder and director of Art on Main Street/ Yonkers, Inc., has managed a series of provocative exhibitions and programs.

Kenny Vance & The Planotones Unplugged with Special Guest Classic Sounds
[link]
Irvington Town Hall Theater

Up Close & Personal Among today's great vocal pop musicians, Kenny Vance and The Planotones have voices of original and inviting dimension. The group, Kenny Vance, Johnny Gale, Kurt "Frenchy" Yahjian, Jimmy Bense, keyboardist Chip Degaard, and Tony Gallino on Drums, redefine oldies with vocal authority and freshness. As exemplified by their signature song "Looking For An Echo", their material is influenced by the music of the 50's and 60's, but they consistently bring a unique and musically sophisticated point of view. In this sense they are classicists, opening the eyes of a new generation to a rich historical musical style. With their cool and sultry musical approach, filtered through a Brooklyn vibe, they give a gift to those who are discovering them for the first time.
